Nintendo fans are eagerly waiting for May 12 when they would be able to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This upcoming Switch game is the most-awaited title in 2023. Now it is not that surprising to see this much hype around this game, as it is a Zelda title after all.

The Legend of Zelda games have always been major hits for Nintendo. But what makes this series exciting is the magical medieval setting. But the developers once wanted to go for a sci-fi futuristic setting for a past Zelda title.

After the uninspiring performance of the second Zelda game, Nintendo wanted to introduce some changes and explore new ideas for the next game. Now that the third Zelda title was getting developed for SNES, which gave them more room to play with their ideas. One of the ideas was to create a sci-fi Zelda game.

There are rumors that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was supposed to have a sci-fi futuristic third world, but it eventually got scrapped. They thought three worlds would get too complicated for the audience. There is also the concept art of Princess Zelda in futuristic dresses to solidify this rumor. Additionally, the iconic Triforce was planned to be three electronic chips.

A Link to the Past is also not the first attempt for Nintendo to create a sci-fi Zelda game. According to some claims, they had this sci-fi futuristic concept for the first game in the series. However, they were unable to proceed with this concept because of the limitation of their technological resources.

But Nintendo didn’t give up on their time-traveling plans or sci-fi in the Zelda universe. In the latter, they explored the concept of time traveling. As for the sci-fi elements, we got to see futuristic things like the Shiekha technology, which included the Master Cycle Zero. Many believe this bike is the reason for the rumored vehicle mechanic in Tears of the Kingdom.
