Nintendo is witnessing a great run this year with back-to-back hits like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Kirby, and the Forgotten Land, and recently the Switch Sports sequel. However, it seems like the entire 2022 won’t likely turn out to be too great for the developer and publisher.

It’s because according to a new report, Nintendo is likely to sell less Switch consoles throughout this calendar. Simply put, there will be a decline in the sales of the handheld console for the current fiscal year.

Nintendo reportedly expecting lower sales for the Switch in 2022

Since the beginning of this year, the company is going through a dream run, to say the least. Firstly, the record-shattering success of Pokemon Legends: Arceus brought it laurels to be proud of. Then the new Kirby entry towards the end of March also went on to become one of the best-selling titles of 2022.

Continuing the streak further, Nintendo Switch Sports also recently opened with the top position on the UK sales chart. The fun title, comprising of various sports like soccer, bowling, chambara, and golf, is already swaying the players across the globe.

However, despite delivering three successive hit releases, Nintendo itself isn’t sure of a long run in 2022. In other words, a new update has revealed that the company is reportedly expecting to sell lower amount of Switch consoles in the current fiscal year.

The report comes from Nikkei, a trusted online portal, which claims that the publisher expects to sell about 20 million units in the ongoing financial year. That will be a decrease of 10 percent from the last year. In 2021, the Switch sold an estimated 23 million units. Which was also a decline, because it witnessed more sales in 2020 with 28.83 million sold units.

Nintendo’s upcoming titles

In another news, Nintendo is currently preparing for the next major line-up of its upcoming games in the remainder of 2022. Among the most awaited titles are Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, and also Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The latter will be another fresh installment in the iconic saga that’s already witnessing a smash hit in Arceus.
