Switch’s Online Nintendo 64 just got better

The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack gives players access to retro titles like Super Mario 64, Star Fox 64, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, amongst others. However, at the service’s launch, players reported a slew of issues and missing features. These ran the gamut of problems with the control scheme in Sin and Punishment, to issues with lag and frame-rate stutters in others.

This definitely made the $50 membership a tough sell at the start. But dataminers Oatmeal Dome and Fernando have spotted some peculiar improvements with the recent update for the subscription service. And safe to say, it might strike the fancy of Nintendo veterans.

OatmealDome notes that Ocarina of Time once again has fog in it. This means that the Water Temple room that attracted fan ire has now been restored. Additionally, the update includes rendering patches for the Zelda title and removes a fog-related patch from Star Fox 64.

Significantly, Fernando brings attention to the fog lining Choco Mountain in Mario Kart 64 as a possible improvement. Some fans have also reported improvements to titles like Paper Mario, where the infamous Wyatt crash is resolved. The bug resulted in the game crashing if the player died with Wyatt as a partner.

Fernando notes the initial issues could result from a rushed release of the service owing to the Animal Crossing DLC. However, the update comes at the perfect time as Majora’s Mask was just released for the service.
