While PlayStation and Xbox remain the dominant forces in gaming today, there is one name you can never discount, Nintendo. The industry veteran that has masterpieces such as The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario under its belt never fails to disappoint with its releases. Their last console, the Nintendo Switch, sparked the beginning of a new era in handheld gaming.

The Nintendo Switch is a nifty handheld device for fans of the company. Being able to run some of the most popular titles in the world, and quickly made a name for itself in the gaming community. As things go with technology, fans waited for the console to receive its highly anticipated update. It seems there might be some news about a potential new Nintendo Switch as Nintendo Direct inches closer.

Fans have a new name for the Nintendo Switch 2

As rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 swirl before Nintendo Direct takes place, fans already have names they think the new console will have. One Redditor thinks the name will be something along the lines of ‘Nintendo Super Switch’. That is not all. The user goes on to bring several arguments that seem to support their claims.

To begin with, the most important argument the user makes is the nostalgia factor the term ‘Super’ has for Nintendo fans. It was used in the past when Nintendo released new consoles. In its essence, it can become a big selling point for the Nintendo Switch 2 simply because of fans’ memories with the company. Additionally, Nintendo has a history of using ‘Super’ with upgraded versions of consoles. The most obvious example is the SNES. It does make it seem plausible, especially with other implications of naming the console the Super Switch.

The name Nintendo Super Switch would also make marketing an easier job, by bringing in features from the SNES such as the joystick. Moreover, with Nintendo bringing classic titles to newer consoles, it would pair perfectly with the name Nintendo Super Switch. If that is not all, the name makes the console sound like it is a powerhouse.

When will this announcement take place?

The announcement will most likely occur at the Nintendo Direct event set to take place today. After rumors of a Nintendo Direct event being in the works surfaced, fans were quite relieved to get confirmation from the company that an event is actually taking place.

Fans hope that with this, their hopes of seeing a Nintendo Switch 2 will finally become reality. Rumors of this device have been around for quite a while, with initial leaks going as far back as 2019. Fans knew back then that a new handheld that would succeed the Switch was on the cards. With small leaks coming here and there kept fans on edge about the arrival of the new device. It was only in March 2023 that fans got confirmation about the hardware components inside the Switch. A source from Samsung leaked information about the Switch 2 using Samsung’s 5LPP processor.

At the moment, there is no confirmation of the Switch 2’s announcement at the event. What fans do is Nintendo has a lineup of games meant for release later this year that they will likely show. So far, the company has done a good job keeping details under wraps, but fans will find out during the event.
