Next-Generation Gaming Experience: Sony PlayStation 5 Futuristic Controller Boasts AI, Shape-Shifting, and Temperature Control Technology, but at a Premium Price

Sony’s PlayStation is one of the forerunners in the gaming industry in terms of innovation. Maintaining its reputation, the giant conglomerate looks forward to bringing a new revolution in controller haptic feedback features. It was revealed that Sony has published a new tech patent for their Sony PlayStation 5 controllers. 

This new patent discusses plans for a new kind of improvement in the controller’s haptic feedback features. According to this patent, the controller will have the ability to emulate temperature depending on the scenarios in the game. Also, it will be made of a deformable elastic material, which will adapt its shape to the user’s preferences. 

The adaptive material and temperature control will add another layer in terms of player immersion. To guide the improved haptic feedback of the controller and to make the user’s experience as immersive as possible, there are possibilities for the implementation of an adaptive AI in the controllers. But all these innovations aren’t going to come for cheap. 

Is the new Sony PlayStation 5 Controller the future of Gaming?

“The shape or hardness of the portions of the elastic members 11 (grips) changes in response to a process performed by the information processing apparatus 2 such as a game, which makes it possible, for example, to present the material of a virtual object in a game space to the user as a haptic sensation, present the temperature of the virtual object as a warm/cold sense, or the like,” mentioned the official patent.

So far, the new controller is expected to have temperature control, adaptive sensors, flexible material, and AI. All these are for sure to surge the price tag to the skies. Already the current Sony PlayStation 5 controllers cost $20 more than their competitor, Xbox. The new Dual Sense Edge Controller has a price tag of $199.99. That is why experts believe this new controller will have a price tag even higher than that, probably between $300- $500.

However, there hasn’t been any official statement regarding the controller yet. Other than the patent, any information regarding this adaptive controller is either speculation or rumor.
