According to a recent leak, Saga is currently planning to launch a new Sonic the Hedgehog game towards the end of next year. Moreover, it’s said to give a tough challenge to 2022’s Zelda sequel. That way, it might attract a lot of Zelda fanboys as well, in case both the titles release simultaneously. The new Sonic game will be called Frontiers, thus giving away the supposed nature of the said project. It will be somewhat different from any other game in the franchise to date.
The overall crux is that Sega will be hoping to attract more Zelda fans with its next Sonic entry at the end of 2022. Sonic Frontiers made its first appearance during The Game Awards 2021 event. There was a teaser trailer revealed during the session in which fans witnessed the sequel to the previous installments. Current reports reveal that the upcoming title will have an open-world environment, unlike the past games in the series.

Early details on Sonic Frontiers
Talking about the title in detail, then it will focus more on giving the option of exploration of the map to the fans. There will be multiple landscapes, such as forests, deserts, waterfalls, open fields, and various other areas. Sega says that the new Sonic will have a high fast-running ability. And players will have the task of fighting against enemies spread across the vast open-world surroundings of Starfall Islands. The teaser trailer premiered at The Game Awards showed them briefly but Sega hasn’t come out with an official confirmation on the same.

When it comes to other key information, there’s nothing available in terms of certainty at this moment. However, the release window of a Holiday season in 2022 points towards a supposed battle between the Sonic sequel and the Zelda sequel. It is quite clear that Sega will target the fans of Breath of the Wild while launching its game against it, at the same time. For the uninitiated, Zelda’s last title, Breath of the Wild, generated massive revenue for Nintendo. While Sega’s take on the next Sonic installment looks interesting with an open-world setting, it will have to offer many new things to challenge Zelda.
