With Assassin’s Creed Mirage set to release on October 12 2023, fans cannot wait to once again step into the world of The Brotherhood. Ahead of the Ubisoft Forward Showcase, the developers have dropped a massive stunner for die-hard Assassin’s Creed fans.
In a recent YouTube video, Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed‘s latest instalment will be featuring a visual filter as a sort of tribute to the original Assassin’s Creed game, which launched back in 2007 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Long-time fans of the game can instantly recognize the lack of colour tones on screen through this filter and can take a walk down memory lane experiencing parts of the ever-growing AC universe in familiar visuals.

In the release video, Stephane Boudon explains that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will feature a “nostalgic” aspect where fans can opt to see the game through a “de-saturated blue-grey color palette“. Boudon, the creative director of Ubisoft, acknowledges the new game would be a “love letter to the origins of the franchise“.

However, it is not just the color tone that is making fans wait excitedly for October, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage also looks to bring back players to a set-up that has not been featured since the first Assassin’s Creed game. Backtracking to a Middle Eastern setup, the new game would also feature a lot of stealth-focused gameplay as opposed to the last few franchise titles which focus on wide-scale world exploration.

Back to the roots, and not just through the visuals
The color options have been added so the fans can revisit the feeling of playing the game for the first time like back in 2007. With circulating rumours of a remake of the original Assassin’s Creed dropping just before AC Mirage, fans are evidently stoked with the announcement and can only hope that their old favorite won’t turn out to be a letdown.
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage seems to be in line with the theme “Return to the Roots” as showcased in the official trailer. Set in 19th century Baghdad, Mirage will feature characters from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as well, who may work as sort of a bridge between the titles. Fans have immediately taken to Twitter to drool over the new visuals as they wait for the game to release.

Imagine putting in all this effort to prove how faithful this entry is to its roots and yet you seemingly opt for the parkour mechanics from the RPG games instead of bringing back the old system that made the series so iconic in the first place. https://t.co/Jej50ixKh9

I cannot wait for October. Every new bit of info about it makes it seem like we're going back to the basics of what the Assassin's Creed game was. Loving it. https://t.co/XbzzFDjdsy
