It is believed that the Assassin’s Creed series had drifted away from its forerunners after its most recent installments. Notably, fans were upset to notice that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla didn’t feel like one, after being really touted as an Assassin’s Creed game.

Thus Ubisoft took note of this and announced a game that is inspired by the very first Assassin’s game. In a tweet, the development studio announced that the new game will be called Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and is based on Baghdad or also known as the Holy Land, similar to the first game. Since it is planned to release in 2023, the latest leaks by sources reveal a lot about the game.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage: A homage to its predecessor
On September 1, Ubisoft in a Twitter post announced that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be called, “Assassin’s Creed Mirage”. Notably, the game was actually called Assassin’s Creed Rift during the early phase of its development. But the most interesting fact that this game will take place in Baghdad is why fans are super excited about it.
According to insiders, the game will take place in 860 and 870 AD, during the anarchy of Samarra. And will feature the fan-favorite character, Basim Ibn Ishaq searching for his children using the Animus, as hinted in Valhalla. Additionally, Bloomberg’s senior eSports reporter Jason Schreier also shed some light on the matter, making it clear that the rumors are eventually true (in most cases).

A person familiar tells me parts of this new Assassin's Creed leak are true (such as the name and the other stuff Bloomberg has already reported: spring 23, Baghdad, back to AC basics) and other parts are not ("multiple cities to explore") https://t.co/qmM6UZtKnG

The most speculative thing about all this is the fact that Basim can be a relative of Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad. Since he was born in the late 12th century and was a master assassin, just like Basim. Notably, the game will also include a DLC called ‘The Forty Thieves’ based on the Alibaba and the Forty Thieves fairytale.

Additionally, the game’s poster has a strong resemblance to the first AC game. As even developers are making it clear with the tweets that it is most like the case. Although, it will be made more clear during the Ubisoft Forward event on Saturday, 10 September 2022 at 9 PM CEST| 12 PM PT.
What are some more additions to the game, and some major changes?
The game is rumored to have removed all the dialogue choices and will focus on only one character instead of a giving character selection choice. The game is also said to not feature any modern-day scenario with Basim, but can be changed with the release of the game.

Apart from this, the character can use two hidden blades just like its predecessors, but will be played in only one city, Baghdad. The eagle drone will return with this game as well, but it is yet to be seen how the game might explain Eagle’s vision with its narrative. One major speculation that still lingers around is the fact that this is a built-up for Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which is supposed to come out in 2024.
