Epic Games has made it in the news yet again, but not for the best reasons. The company mentioned plans to make Fortnite a metaverse-inspired ecosystem. It was due to this that the company had to lay off its staff to keep up with financials. It is to be noted that layoffs are common in the gaming industry. This is usually driven by factors like shifting company priorities or financial planning. As more than 870 employees were laid off recently, Engie DeVora, a former member of Epic Games, has offered a lifeline.

While looking for a job is a difficult task, the sudden layoffs have left employees disoriented and anxious. The former member of Epic Games comes in as a ray of hope for the laid-off employees.

Engie Devora used to work at Epic Games from September 2021 to September 2022 as a Senior Technical Recruiter. During her service period, she was responsible for full-cycle technical recruiting within Team Online. Team Online handles Epic Games’ online services and platform groups. After quitting the job at Epic Games, she took on another job before settling in at the popular streaming service Netflix.

After hearing the news about Epic Games laying off people, she took to LinkedIn to make a post that surely gave hope to Epic Games ex-employees. In the post, she said, “To my former colleagues at Epic Games, I am so sorry to hear about the layoffs. I know that Epic holds an extremely high hiring bar and you all are such incredibly talented individuals.”

She added that Netflix Games, the gaming division of the streaming service, is hiring. Engie also mentioned how there are several roles open across development, production, design, and more. Engie adds to that by saying that there are also positions for devs that work with Unreal Engine. While prompting the devs to check out the careers page, she also offered help and support to the devs in every way she could.

Epic Games is receiving a lot of criticism due to its recent layoff. It’s clear that the employees and fans are not happy with this move. That being said, Engie, who understands the situation better than most, is there to help the now-former employees of Epic.

In a memo from Tim to the Employees, the CEO stated, “For a while now, we’ve been spending way more money than we earn, investing in the next evolution of Epic and growing Fortnite as a metaverse-inspired ecosystem for creators.
