The live-action One Piece has the fans in teeters. Both manga, as well as anime, have immense popularity within the anime community. As Netflix dropped the trailer for the live-action adaptation, One Piece lovers can’t wait to see the antics of the Straw Hat Pirates. However, a lot of skepticism is also present, with the track record of the previous anime adaptations. However, it seems like Netflix is bent to turn thigs around with One Piece.
With Netflix not having much success with live adaptation projects yet, the community cynicism is understandable. In a move to turn around fan opinions, the OTT giant is bringing together the original cast of the anime as the voice actors for the One Piece Japanese version.

One Piece is the epic saga of seafarers Straw Hat Pirates who look to chart the oceans. The adventures of Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and their friends have become legendary to the fans. The magnitude of their travels and the stunning tales they create are all favorite discussion topics for the fans. So, fans’ disbelief is well-placed when they say that Netflix is likely to mess this up as well.
However, a recent Twitter post suggests that Netflix is focused on not throwing one more opportunity down
. To cater to the fans’ nostalgia, the producers reportedly are in talks with the original actors for the animated One Piece series. The Japanese One Piece version will see the original cast coming back to fans’ delight. However, how good will the end result be, only time will tell.

Netflix One Piece is likely to salvage the OTT’s image

Like many fans, popular content creators were also skeptical of Netflix’s One Piece. The trailer release saw many streamers like Hasan Piker and Amouranth reacting to the video. Moist Charlie, a popular YouTuber declared that he didn’t feel strongly about the project. “They haven’t had a hit yet“, Charlie reminded his followers.

The cynicism is understandable, looking at the examples till now. From Death Note to Roruni Kenshin, none of the live adaptation series left a lasting mark on the viewers. However, with the scale and budget of the pirate adventure, it looks like Netflix is finally giving an adaptation its due.
