Neil Druckmann Subtly Reveals ‘The Last of Us’ Being a “Small Student Project” Which is Now Turned Into a Historical Title

This 2023-released HBO series is an adaptation of an action-adventure game with the same name. Like the series, the original game was also a major hit, even winning 2013’s Game of the Year. But the game’s creator Neil Druckmann never expected things to unfold in this manner.

This 2013-released action-adventure title is the brainchild of the video game developer Neil Druckmann. He recently reported to Deadline Hollywood, “I think my life has been insane. I don’t know how I ended up here.”

“I think it just started as a small student project that turned into a video game and now this incredible TV show.” The Last of Us mastermind on the huge success of his creation, “And, I’m just incredibly grateful to be part of this journey.”

Undoubtedly, he is feeling incredible that the post-apocalyptic story that he came up with turned into such a renowned series. He is not only the creator of both the TLOU games but also the co-creator of the HBO adaptation.

Early next year, Druckmann might start shooting the second season of the HBO adaptation with co-creator Craig Mazin. But this might not be the only Last of Us project he might have on hand, as there are rumors about a third game installment and a multiplayer game.

The success of this HBO show has already broken the curse of video game adaptations being failures. In the past, video game adaptations of titles like Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia failed to leave their mark on the audience. However, things are different now.

The HBO series has also set some new standards for future video game adaptations, like the upcoming God of War series. Like Druckmann’s game, God of War is also an iconic PlayStation game series. Now fans would also be able to enjoy it in a new format.
