The Final Fantasy series is a cinematic experience, with each installment the devs at Square Enix push the envelope by making each new game a grand experience. Moreover, according to the producer, the upcoming FF game is all set to take a step further and create something that wasn’t seen in the series before. 

At PAX East, Naoki Yoshida held two panels, one for FF14 and one for FF16. During the FF16 panel, Naoki revealed some brand-new information about the upcoming title, including some behind the scene insights about the ideas and inspirations they had during the development process. 

Final Fantasy 16 will be a “Hollywood Action Blockbuster”

During the panel, Yoshida talked about many aspects of the game, like the characters, the world, and especially the combat. According to Naoki, FF16 will be having some of the most advanced combat systems in franchise history. Combining combat elements from classic FF titles and modern innovations like ‘Real-Time Combat,’ FF16 is aspiring to a thrilling ride. 

“The Final Fantasy series has long been described as a cinematic experience. But now we can truly liken this and make feel like you are playing an actual Hollywood Blockbuster” said Naoki during the Pax East Panel. From the reports and recent reveals, it has been clear that there have been some changes in the direction of FF16.

Among them, one of the most notable would be the additions of the Eikons. Previously in the Final Fantasy games, players could summon massive mythical creatures to fight beside them. These included the fearsome Ifrit, Bahamut, Shiva, and Phoenix, among others. In the new game, the summons has taken a new role. 

In FF16 these god-like beings will be possessing certain individuals granting them their powers. They are called, Eikons. This new addition will allow new avenues in terms of combat and gameplay. Also, this will be the first FF game where the summons will play an active role in the story.

Other than the revised role of the Summons, FF16 will also have a combat companion wolf, Torgal. In a short tease, it revealed that Torgal is a ‘support’ character. During combat, Torgal will be providing openings in the enemy’s defenses which in terms could be abused by players. Torgal will also be a great tool to initiate devastating combos that could make short work of powerful enemies.
