Entrepreneur Chris Frantz recently conducted an experiment using Chat GPT. He used the AI software to create gradually generated dialogues for NPCs, giving a new layer to player immersion in video games. While there have been some hiccups, Frantz believes with proper development and research this could be a breakthrough in the world of gaming.
“Add some memory for past conversations and improve the lag and it’s over,” said Frantz about what this new development needs to be functional. He sees a lot of potential in this invention. According to him, he “could see people just losing their lives to this.” His experiment attracted a lot of attention on Twitter.
Thea retweeted, adding the quote, “Hear me out. Ai driven characters in video games are going to become the future.” In theory, the thought of having a gradually generated script based on a player’s actions for non-playable characters could be revolutionary for RPG and MMORPG games, but there are some hiccups in the way.

Twitter user @TheCallonetta replied saying, “big big big doubt – AI driven text will never be the same or match a driven quality that a games narrative writer/designer can put forth and this is the case for more reasons than I could possibly list in a tweet.” Thus pointing out a massive flaw in implementing AI in games.
Noticing this, Thea suggested, “I definitely agree, I am thinking more of Ready Player 1 online worlds.” In the end, looking at the current state of AI, it is clear that having fully aware NPCs in video games will still take time to be a reality, but looking at the experiment we can only marvel at the possibilities of a real-life Ready Player 1 game!
