Mortal Kombat 11 was one of the most successful titles in this legendary gaming series and was released in 2019. This game garnered high acclaim from its players for its immersive gameplay, exciting roster of characters, thrilling storytelling, and captivating visuals. NetherRealm Studios carried on the success of the game with consistent content updates and after-launch support until 2021. These updates included an expansion called Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, which introduced new characters.
Recently, Ed Boon, the Director of NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of the game, promised there would be content updates and post-release support for at least two years, as long as Mortal Kombat 11, which lasted for two years. So, we can expect NetherRealm Studios to have MK1 players back until at least 2025.
Regarding the updates and support, Boon has this to say, “I think that’s the minimum we’ll be doing. I think we’ll be supporting this game at least as long as Mortal Kombat 11. I would suspect even longer, but a lot of the fun of releasing additional characters after we launched the game is seeing the relationships.”
A Glimpse into the Future – The Promise of New Characters
One of the key aspects of the success of Mortal Kombat 11 was the introduction of new characters to the roster. The Aftermath expansion of MK11 saw fans excited with new character additions like Sheeva and Fujin and an epic crossover with the classic 1987 movie RoboCop to add RoboCop to the roster. Mortal Kombat 1 is also following the same path. MK1 has already released the first DLC for the game: Kombat Pack Roster.
