We are in 2023, meaning The Last of Us fans would only have to wait a few more days for it to start airing on HBO and HBO Max. It will retell the story of a fan-favorite, decade-old title but in a new format and fresh changes.
This upcoming adaptation will consist of nine episodes. Each of them is expected to clock at 50 minutes in length. But as the show’s release date is approaching nearer, its creators are revealing more interesting details about the series, and also what may lie ahead in the near future.

It is no secret that this upcoming TV series has adapted everything from the game. It seems like the makers are only planning to add more stuff to the story than subtract anything. Neil Druckmann, who’s also involved in the project, recently stated that the show will present lots of new angles, which the game couldn’t showcase.
If there is so much to explore, it doesn’t seem they are planning to wrap the entire plot of the first game in nine episodes. Simply put, a second season might be on the cards that will retell the remaining plot of the first game, from nearly a decade ago.

Recently, the HBO adaptation’s showrunner Craig Mazin also hinted at The Last of Us TV series will witness a long journey. He shared, “The amount of story that remains, that we have not covered, would be more than a season of television.“
HBO is excited about this video game-adapted TV series
Mazin revealed that HBO is looking forward to the success of the anticipated live-action show. He said, “everybody at HBO is excited.” If the first season turns out to be a super hit, it won’t take long for the American television company to greenlit a sequel or in other words, the second season.
