Thanks to smartphones, the whole mobile gaming segment has gotten a tremendous boost. The whole segment has got so profitable and big that even revenues of big names like NFL and NBA seem trivial in comparison.

Mobile gaming revenues growing at an alarming pace

According to recent data by the market analyst firm Sensor Tower, the worldwide mobile game market has produced $7.7 billion in player spending for August 2021. The company also added that the revenue amount depicts an increase of 8.6% year-over-year. This denotes a massive jump in consumer spending. For context, NBA revenue for the 2019-20 season was $8.3 billion while NFL contributed $12.2 billion, which is down 4 % from last season.

While the global lockdown and the pandemic have affected every tournament and big event, the same has given a tremendous boost to mobile gaming. With everyone staying in their homes, the majority of the population chose to pass their time playing mobile games.

The report further mentions that the highest-earning game for the month was Tencent’s PUBG Mobile at reportedly $270 million in August. This is no surprise, as the game has an immense following and a player base that spans borders. Tencent’s Honor of Kings bagged the second spot at $256.2 million.

Moreover, Sensor Tower describes that Sony’s Fate/Grand Order has garnered approximately $5.5 billion player spending in its existence to date. The firm’s revenue estimations and rankings do not incorporate data from third-party Android stores in China or other regions.

It is estimated that mobile gaming as a segment is expected to rise to $272 Billion by 2030. With every major company jumping into the mobile gaming segment, it is quite probable that mobile gaming might catch on with its PC counterpart.
