The community scrutiny around the ChatGPT creators is not going away anytime soon. The series of events in the multi-billion dollar tech startup OpenAI has another interesting twist on the cards. The former CEO of the ChatGPT bot parent company has just announced the new beginning of his career with Microsoft. Following a surprising layoff by OpenAI, the Xbox parent company has welcomed two of OpenAI’s core members with open arms. 

Microsoft has had quite an eventful year. The console giants have been through a series of highs and lows in 2023. With the hype surrounding Starfield, and the viral data leak following the Activision acquisition legal controversy, Microsoft has been the most popular topic in the gaming community. Well, it seems like the brand is eyeing the bigger picture now as the latest news hints that some big focus changes in the company are on the way! 

Is OpenAI’s ongoing “leadership transition” not sitting well with Microsoft? 

Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI, has joined the Xbox parent company. According to the official confirmation, Sam Altman will lead a new advanced research team that will focus on AI. This hints at some major strategy changes the company might adopt in the coming months. This hiring came just hours after his negotiations with the unicorn startup failed. 

Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO through a direct response to Sam Altman on X, wrote, “I’m super excited to have you join as CEO of this new group, Sam, setting a new pace for innovation.” Checkout the full tweet below:

Along with the former CEO of OpenAI, Greg Brockman, the co-founder of the startup, is also joining Microsoft. For those unaware, Sam Altman was fired from the multi-billion dollar AI company this Friday. “Mr. Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI,” the company wrote in the address.

According to the reports, Microsoft, which has been a major investor in the unicorn, wasn’t aware of the planned “transition.” With the increasing talk of AI in gaming and the recent additions to their team, where does Microsoft go from here?

The Xbox parent company set to shift its focus to the AI evolution? 

The hiring of the two former OpenAI veterans brings a ton of excitement for Xbox. Microsoft’s interest in the AI boom can be traced back to some visionary initiatives that might allegedly be a significant change in the market.

Earlier, Microsoft had laid the blueprint of its AI chip that would affect the dominance of Nvidia chips in the GPU business. Further, the company had shown interest in its partner, OpenAI.
