After the release of the PlayStation Visa Card, Microsoft joined the race with the Xbox Mastercard. The Xbox Mastercard is a no-annual-fee credit card issued by Barclays, exclusively for Xbox Insiders in the US. Initially, the Xbox Mastercard will be available exclusively to Insiders in the continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii, starting on September 21, 2023.

However, it will later be available to all Xbox players in the United States in 2024. That being said, let’s take a deeper look into what the card offers.

What points system can we expect from the Xbox Mastercard?

With the new gaming-inspired credit card, players can earn card points for every $1 spent on purchases.

Cardholders can earn points as follows:

  • 5x points on eligible products at the Microsoft Store
  • 3x points on eligible streaming services like Netflix and Disney+
  • 3x points on eligible dining delivery services like Grubhub and DoorDash
  • 1x point on all other everyday purchases

Cardmembers will also enjoy benefits such as a 5,000-point bonus after their first purchase, three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for new Game Pass members, a choice of card designs, contactless payment options, free access to their FICO Credit Score, and $0 Fraud Liability protection.

What other benefits does the card provide?

Varied Rewards:  Cardholders can accumulate five points for every dollar they spend on eligible products when shopping at the online Microsoft Store. Additionally, they can earn three points for each dollar spent on popular streaming services such as Netflix and Disney Plus. Similarly, three points are awarded for every dollar spent on delivery services like Grubhub and DoorDash.

Annual Percentage Rate: Users of the card can expect an APR that will range from 20.99 percent to 31.99 percent based on the cardholder’s credit score.

Customization and Bonuses: Card members can customize their Xbox Mastercard with a Gamertag and receive a bonus of 5,000 points (equivalent to $50) after their first purchase. Furthermore, new Game Pass members receive three months of Game Pass Ultimate, and they can gift it to others.

Design Choices: Users can choose from five designs to add a personal touch to their new credit card.

Historical Context: This card marks Microsoft’s return to offering an Xbox-themed credit card, more than a decade after their Live Diamond loyalty card from 2005.
