When Hideo Kojima left to work in his own studio in 2015, fans were worried about the future of Metal Gear Solid. Konami, however, did try to continue the series without Kojima. But the disastrous performance of 2018’s Metal Gear Survive did not bode well with this decision.

Following this, it was rumored that Konami also abandoned Kojima’s magnum opus. This caused a lot of uproar among fans of this stealth action-adventure game. Later, news of the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, which is going to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive broke out. Recent rumors on the future of Metal Gear, however, tell a different story.

Industry insider Jez Corden made the shocking reveal of the remake being multi-platform. Historically speaking, the series was always known to be a PlayStation game. Although the titles were released on multiple platforms, PlayStation fans were the ones to get their hands on them first.

In his The Xbox Two Podcast podcast, Corden discussed this reveal, stating, “It does seem at least in the case of metal gear actually could be multiplatform.” Corden did not know the full details of the deal between Konami and Sony. But he suspects the title to be a timed exclusive for PlayStation. Corden also suggested that Sony could just have marketing rights or a timed DLC agreement for Metal Gear Solid.

The good news for Xbox fans is that he speculates the title will soon come to them too. “But from what I’ve heard it could also be coming to Xbox down the line so it’s not a full exclusive either at all,” said Corden.

The decision to release this title on multiple platforms and reach a larger audience could bode well for Konami. However, the industry insider also stated he could be wrong about this. Fans of the series should take this information with a pinch of salt. The title is rumored to be released in 2024 and maybe first revealed in the PlayStation Showcase before June.
