Metroid Dread has been one of the most successful ventures of the classic series. The game went on to thrash all its predecessors’ sales numbers. A lot of the game’s success credit goes to the support it received from Nintendo. While the game was exceptionally well-received by the community, some still called the development process ‘chaotic’. Well, the makers finally have an answer to all such allegations.

Ever since its release in October 2021, Metro Dread has sustained its positive gameplay reviews. The expectations were already high as the developers MercurySteam were partnering with the Japanese gaming giant Nintendo. Eventually, the collaboration helped the revival of the series. The game was impressive from every technical standpoint. The Nintendo Switch release is unarguably “one of the best games of the franchise“, as the CEO of MercurySteam said in a recent interview.

The CEO of MercurySteam Enric Alvarez gave a sneak peek into the Metroid Dread development process. During the publishing phase, a lot of allegations surfaced around the conflicts between Nintendo and MercurySteam. The alleged claims led to the fans calling the partnership ‘chaotic’. However, according to the CEO’s latest statements, the allegations are baseless.

The developers’ chief gave an alternate perspective. He couldn’t stop praising the efforts Nintendo had put into the development of Metroid Dread. The CEO also appreciated Nintendo’s creatively liberal environment. Alvarez called the partnership “one of the best development processes we could ever dream of.”

The latter was asked about his views on the ‘chaotic development’ allegation. Addressing the criticism, Alvarez said, “I don’t think the development was chaotic. Chaotic development doesn’t end with one of the best games in the franchise. It doesn’t end with a game that has sold over three point-something million copies. It doesn’t end with a game that won TGA awards. That’s all I have to say about it.”

The analytical reports also back the statements made by the developer. Metroid Dread is the best-selling game franchise. Even considering the oldest sales numbers, no other title of the series has touched the mark of 3 million sales. The makers’ innovative decisions like retaining the side-scrolling gameplay of previous 2D editions and fusing it with stealth elements did wonders for the Nintendo-published project.
