The Call of Duty franchise and its titles may be surrounded with controversy, but one thing can’t be denied and that’s they are generally very successful. And this fact was proved yet again by an unexpected rise in the popularity of a decade-old entry, Modern Warfare 3. Recently, it outperformed an ongoing popular multiplayer title from Activision, Warzone, on Twitch.
However, there’s a major reason behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 gaining a sudden boost on Twitch compared to Warzone.

Twitch viewership numbers reveal Modern Warfare 3 is still a great Call of Duty, even against Warzone!
Modern Warfare 3 launched in 2011, developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer. It was the third and also the final entry in the original MW series, being the eighth installment in the entire franchise.
Modern Warfare 3’s story begins right after the last mission of its predecessor, MW 2 from 2009. The title featured Captain Price, Soap MacTavish, and Yuri as one of the playable characters.
While the game might be more than ten years old now, it doesn’t mean that it has lost all its sheen. A Twitter account named ModernWarzone recently tweeted some interesting numbers of the game from Twitch.
The tweet had two images showing how Modern Warfare 3 had more active viewers than Call of Duty: Warzone.

But ModernWarzone also stated a major reason for this unexpected phenomenon. Basically, it was because of a “MW3 tournament” that was conducted by some of the largest Spanish Twitch streamers. Hence, the 2011 Call of Duty ended up gaining momentum, even edging out a stellar title like Warzone.
This is due to several of the largest streamers from the Spanish community getting together to practice for an MW3 tournament that is set to happen tomorrow.
The ratio of MW3 viewers to Warzone viewers will be much higher tomorrow as a result.

Still, it was quite surprising for a lot of users, as they came up with varied reactions. Some of them mentioned how good Modern Warfare 3 is still fun to play even after a decade of its release. While others, somehow, criticized Warzone for not being very appealing, since it was outnumbered by MW 3 in Twitch viewership.
Still, a 11 year old game having more viewership than what’s supposed to be Activision’s golden child is pretty embarrassing for them

You clearly dont understand how viewership works. A huge stremer could go on a game and give it 60K viewers instantly. As the person you replied to stated – theres more context. This isn’t embarrassing at all. Quite the opposite. Its because a one time thing(tourny) was happening

No it's embarrassing. One community outdid the total views of the rest of the world on what's the biggest BR game from the best selling franchise of all time lol.
