Smash Bros. is one of the biggest franchises to have come from Nintendo over the years. The idea of characters from pretty much every single Nintendo game and some third-party games just taking on each other is pretty insane. And it was conceptualized by none other than the legendary Masahiro Sakurai.

Over the years, he has directed a bunch of games in this popular series. Besides that, his studio, HAL Laboratory, has worked on several Kirby games too. He also made Kid Icarus Uprising for Nintendo 3DS, and people were once again blown away. And now he recently talked about what’s next for that little hero with wax wings!

Sakurai has a very popular YouTube channel where he talks to his fans about his way of producing video games. While doing so, he also talks about how he went about creating some of the most iconic games for Nintendo.

In his latest video, he talked about a little game called Kid Icarus: Uprising. He developed that game back in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. The title came as a pleasant surprise for its fans. They had not seen a new game in that series for numerous years, and this one was something special. It was a fast-paced third-person shooter that actually worked with a touch screen. No Doubt fans loved it, and no doubt it showed that Sakurai had put his heart and soul into it.

Ever since the launch of that surprising title, fans have wondered if Nintendo would bring that game to the Nintendo Switch. They have even wondered about the possibility of a sequel. But during this recent video, Sakurai mentioned that a sequel or even a re-release of this game is somewhat out of the question.

He says a sequel or a re-release of that game “seems difficult“. As developing such a game would require a large team, which he is lacking at the moment. he mentioned without a team “there could be no more Kid Icarus” Not to say fans are pretty skeptical about this statement; they think there is still a chance for them to see it happen.

Here’s hoping Nintendo and HAL Labs change their minds and give Sakurai one more chance to develop such a game. A fast-paced third-person rail shooter on the Nintendo Switch would be truly incredible for any fan.
