The release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 trailer became one of the main highlights at the San Diego Comic-Con. As the trailer gave us hints of the story to come, the talk of the town remained Venom. Venom’s entry into the game is among the most anticipated events following the arrival of the first game. However, while it’s unsure how Venom comes into play, his motivations are simple, as revealed by developers.

Venom wants to kill Spider-Man in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
The story of Venom throughout the history of the character has been an interesting affair for fans. The symbiote clearly has mixed feelings about our friendly-neighborhood superhero. However, Rosemann’s revelation may have given a deeper insight into how Venom fits into the game’s storyline.
UPDATE: Marvel Games Vice President & Creative Director Bill shares some insight on Venom in Spider-Man 2🚀

According to what Rosemann said, Venom’s motivations in the game are simple. He wants to eliminate Spider-Man. Given how the reveal trailer had footage of Peter donning the symbiote suit, it might explain why Venom is hostile toward Spider-Man. It may just be about Peter resisting the effects of the suit. The love-hate relationship might just be enough to explain Venom’s actions.

What adds to this are the little snippets seen in the trailer. Miles Morales and Mary Jane both notice a change in Peter’s behavior. In the gameplay revealed at PlayStation Showcase, Peter does not seem like the old Spider-Man, one who teases enemies as he neutralizes them. Instead, he is more aggressive and angrier in the way he deals with enemies. It reflects even in Peter’s voice.

As part of the story, we may see Peter and Miles come together to fight the effects the symbiote has on Peter. The act of rejection might be enough to spur a hostile response from Venom.
Does Venom want to kill Miles or Peter?
While Rosemann did provide information about how Venom fits into the story, he did not specify which Spider-Man he talked about. Ever since Miles discovered his powers, the sequel will have two Spider-Men swinging through New York. Instead of Peter, Venom may be out to get Miles. Miles remains one of Peter’s closest allies. As a result, he is most likely the person who may help Peter overcome the symbiote.

Venom may just look to get Miles out of the picture so that he can bond with Pete and unleash havoc in the city. While a plausible theory, it remains to be seen. In the meantime, both Spider-Men should look out because Venom is on the prowl! Spider-Man 2 will be out on October 20th. It will be a long wait for what looks to be one of the best games of 2023.
