- Release Date and Platforms
Just after the announcement, fans went crazy and excited to hear about the release date window. Unfortunately, the game is still at an early developing stage and hasn’t received an official release date.
Marathon’s general manager Scott Taylor says, “there’s still a lot of work to do before launch or even before we’re ready to talk about the game in more detail,” before adding that it’s still too early to give a timeline on when more information will be coming. When Bungie does pull back the curtain in the future, it’ll “be able to show you the gameplay and be much closer to launch.”
Interestingly, Marathon will feature full cross-play and cross-save support. In other words, it will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. After the Sony-Bungie acquisition, the studio has committed to being a multi-game, multi-platform studio.
- What is Marathon?
Marathon is a new PvP extraction shooter game developed by the creators of Halo and Destiny. It will be a new FPS title and the first completely new project from Bungie in over a decade. Moreover, it will be distinct from the previously released Marathon games that were released for Mac OS back in the ’90s.
The Marathon’s general manager has already alerted users to not mistake the upcoming FPS title as a sequel. Furthermore, he promised, ” You don’t need to know anything about Marathon to understand or play this game, but if you do, we’ve made the experience with references and deep cuts you’ll recognize.” Marathon will task users to compete with other players for riches, renown, and survival in an ever-evolving world.

- Multiplayer and Survival in Tau Ceti IV
Players will open their eyes and fight to survive on a new fictional planet of Tau Ceti IV. The world is deserted, abandoned by the 30,000 souls who once called it home, and as a Runner they will have the chance to explore it all.
Interestingly, users will be tasked to engage solo or in crews of three in search of mysterious alien artifacts, as well as for valuable loot, new weapons, gear, and much more. The game director Christopher Barrett teases the Marathon world to be “full of persistent, evolving zones, where players create their own journey with every run they take.”
The upcoming Bungie FPS title will solely focus on multiplayer and revolutionize the current PvP experience. Thus, Marathon will avoid the single-player campaign mode.
According to the game director, “The heart of Marathon’s gameplay experience is PvP but it isn’t the entire story. We’re building a rich, immersive world that will have ample opportunities for exploration and conflict – both against other players and AI-controlled enemies.” Indeed, it would be interesting to see Bungie’s plans to introduce a futuristic PvP combat experience.
- GamePlay
Bungie is planning to challenge the current PvP combat experience with the release of Marathon. Marathon will task players around their ability to navigate encounters with other players out in the wilds of Tau Ceti IV–either running solo, or in crews of three.
