With each passing year, newer means through which an individual can gain popularity rise. But still, there are some methods that have provided quite good traction to content creators on a regular basis. Among them are YouTube shorts and TikTok. The latter has become an industry of its own, that boasts popular talents who shot up the internet leaderboards through their presence in the platform. Having a plethora of platforms that increase exposure is something that content creators consider vital. Thus, TikTok and similar platforms have a crucial role in the boom of an individual in the online space. It has the potential to make someone an overnight star. Additionally, established creators like MrBeast uses the platform to get a steady flow of traffic.

But interestingly, short video content-sharing platforms are going through a dramatic change. According to Reed Duchscher, there is a noticeable change in the algorithms of platforms like TikTok. These systems are what determine the flow of traffic to a particular page. Thus, a change in this vital factor can cause polarizing changes in the online space. It seems that MrBeast’s manager noted that there is a preference that is currently given to newer accounts over older ones.

He uses an example from his own experience to further explain the situation. 24 hours isn’t enough anymore to tell if a video will do well or not. “I’d argue that we’re seeing this same model on YouTube Shorts too. It took 21 days for FaceTiming With MrBeast gain any traction, now it has 24M views,” stated Reed. His popular ‘calling MrBeast from a campus’ video took quite a while to get the needed traffic.

It seems that the 24-hour trend window is no longer applicable for established content creators. Though this might seem beneficial to rising talents, established creators like MrBeast and their fans would likely suffer from the declined exposure. This also means that the lower the exposure, the fewer the brand deals. Revenue stagnation is also a plausible side effect of this new phenomenon.
