The Valorant Americas league is currently ongoing, where the franchised tier 1 teams of the region are competing to reach the playoffs. Before the competition commenced, there was much hype and expectations of how the tournament will turn out, but to the surprise of many, the unexpected has been happening.
The supposed underdogs defeated the teams, which were considered giants of the competition, proving why they are in this franchised league. A team that had a lot of spotlights in the VCT Americas was Sentinels, but things have not been going their way, which has now resulted in the sacking of their coach.

Sentinels have been a team that is considered the face of NA Valorant. They are the first team to win a Valorant LAN tournament. The Master winner was unstoppable during that time and took the cup home without even losing a map. But post that competition, Sentinels has been running into roadblocks.
They managed to qualify for some major tournaments, but none were fruitful, which resulted in a team shake-up. After many changes and adjustments, Sentinels hoped to be a reckoning force at the 2023 Americas League. They brought Champions winners pANcada and Sacy.
From XSET, Dephh was brought in as IGL, and Zekken was also added. Sentinels retained their marque player TenZ. Syyko and Kaplan were brought as head and assistant coaches.
With a star-studded team, everyone thought they will wreak havoc on opponents. They proved their prowess in the first match against 100 Thieves but fell incredibly short in their last two matches.
This led Rob Moore, the CEO of Sentinels, to sack their new coach Syyko. They have instated Kaplan as the head coach with immediate effect. This is not the first time the franchise is changing up its squad after a series of losses.
The removal of Zombs from the starting 5, the ShahZam debates, and the dropping of Kanpeki are some of such similar decisions made by the franchise through their run in VCT.
The sudden change in coach shocked the fans
The match that was played the previous day against Leviatan had a strong beginning. Though the map which Sentinels picked (Split) was won by Leviatan in Overtime, SEN managed to get back even after winning Ascent (Leviatan’s pick).
It went the distance but @LeviatanGG clean it up on Pearl and win the series 2-1! #VCTAmericas

But on the last map, the team got dominated and lost 4-13 against the South American team. We can speculate this was the final straw, and thus Syyko was removed from the position. Professionals and fans alike were shocked by the news.

With the promotion of Kaplan, SEN fans expect some wonders to happen in the coming matches. Moreover, Marved, who has been ruled as the sixth man, may even make his entry into the starting 5, after the recent poor performance of the team. Sentinels’ next match is against LOUD, the VCT 2022 Champions.
