Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom started dominating the gaming charts the moment it stepped into the ring. This game has proven itself to be a worthy contender for the Game of the Year 2023 with its performance. The Nintendo title is gaining acclaim from all fronts and is scoring a perfect score in reviews.
This impressive run from Tears of the Kingdom has overshadowed an established contender for Game of the Year. Hogwarts Legacy had previously surpassed Elden Ring in sales and now looks like the Nintendo title is doing the same to the magic of Hogwarts Legacy. In recent reports, Tears of the Kingdom surpassed the Avalanche Software title in sales drastically.
The new Zelda title surpasses Hogwarts Legacy

According to Games Industry.biz, the Zelda title is on its way to becoming the biggest Nintendo game. It is already Nintendo’s second-biggest release in UK history by earnings, behind 2008’s Wii Fit. In terms of unit sales, the Zelda title is just behind Wii Fit and Pokemon. This immaculate success in just a few days of release has definitely made the game a contender for GOTY 2023.

However, these all records were based on the comparison from Nintendo games. While going head-to-head with titles from other studios, the main competitor will be Hogwarts Legacy. However, Tears of The Kingdom has sold 54% more than Hogwarts Legacy did at launch.
The Zelda title entered the GfK UK Boxed Top Ten list at the number one spot, dethroning Hogwarts Legacy to claim the spot. With this addition, Tears of the Kingdom, Hogwarts Legacy, and Star War Jedi: Survivor have all taken consecutive podium spots in the UK.
Hogwarts Legacy’s magic is slowly fading away
The Avalanche title is having issues of its own too. With the underwhelming response on PS4 and Xbox One, the game was hoping to get some success in the release on Nintendo Switch.

But now, the Nintendo Switch version, which was earlier coming on July 25, has been delayed further by a lot. The Switch version is now coming on November 14, 2023, which represents a four-month delay.
