The Mafia series has been making a name for itself for a very long time now. These strictly story-based games have been a fun distraction for lovers of some excellent gangster stories. They also keep gamers busy in between every two GTA games.

The last game in the series, Mafia 3, was met with positive reviews thanks to its innovative storytelling and a very different kind of protagonist. And now it appears a sequel is in the works, and it would be adding something very curious to this series in terms of gameplay.

Mafia 4 might include a multiplayer mode aside from its campaign

The Mafia series has been pretty straightforward gameplay-wise. Even though these games are set in progressively larger open worlds, they mostly take players from mission to mission. And they tell a very well-written story that everybody gets engaged with. Even when developer Hanger 13 decided to remake the first game in the series and name it Mafia Definitive Edition, they still did not care to change much, other than adding a few extra scenarios and redesigning some existing ones.

But now it appears Mafia 4 will add much more to the series than fans had ever expected before. It is said that this new game will introduce two major additions to the series. One would be a multiplayer mode, and the other would be a stealth gameplay mechanic.

Both of these speculations come in light of a bunch of LinkedIn job postings spotted by a Reddit user. These postings require designers to have an “Experience with AAA titles, multiplayer games, and/or live game design experience preferred.”

If this has any plausibility, then it would be fun to see how Hanger 13 implements online elements in a game that is basically a story game with no distractions. Maybe the series will change its direction from this game onward, making way for such features to be added. It will be seen when the game is actually revealed.

They have experimented with stealth before too

It’s not as if the Mafia series never had any stealth mechanics at all, so to speak; it’s just that they have never been very fleshed out. The first example of those was in Mafia II, in the mission where players are tasked with stealing a bunch of fuel stamps.

Then they gave players the complete option to be stealthy in Mafia 3, but that feature most of the time did not work as intended. Here’s hoping they do it better this time around.
