The Warrior of Light’s adventures made Final Fantasy XIV one of the most memorable narratives in the Final Fantasy franchise. Till now, it’s also been one of the highest-selling titles in the series. The gameplay is over 120 hours long, which means that there’s enough source material for a complete TV series. However, speculations of such a project have remained a rumor till now. With Yoshida’s revelations, fans feel like there might be hope.

Talking to Famitsu magazine about a new Final Fantasy story, titled “Golden Legacy”, Yoshida said he wants to do a TV series based on FF14. However, with him being the executive officer, general manager of the third development division, and the director, he doesn’t reckon he will be given directing responsibilities at the moment. But with Final Fantasy developers never explicitly opposing the idea of an anime or live-action adaptation, fans believe such a project could be announced soon.

The prospect of the long-running MMORPG becoming a TV series in the near future is exciting for fans. Yoshida also said that Square Enix will be careful to retain the image of the game and the players while making such a movie or series. “…we would be very particular about how to make it into a film and work without destroying the image that players have“, said the director of Final Fantasy XIV.

Such statements only establish how much the devs are focusing on making sure such projects turn out to the liking of the fans. With that being said, Final Fantasy XVI is currently performing tremendously well in the market, making any ideas for a TV show or anime merely a dream for the time being.
