As the release date of the highly anticipated movie edges closer, the Super Mario Bro. actor Charlie Day expressed his interest in another iconic Nintendo franchise. Day plays one of the main protagonist brothers in the movie, Luigi. In a recent interview, Charlie shared he will be down for a movie only based on Luigi. 

The Japanese gaming juggernaut, Nintendo has some of the most iconic gaming franchises in the world, including Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, and more. Among them, one of the most influential and evergreen is none other than the Super Mario series. The upcoming movie follows the premise of this iconic franchise. 

After Super Mario Bros., Charlie Day wants a Luigi movie

Although the SMB franchise is about both of the brothers, Mario is seen as the main protagonist. However, there is a separate series named The Luigi’s Mansion which focuses on the green brother, Luigi. While Nintendo and the studio behind the upcoming movie, Illumination, haven’t shared what they have in mind for the next in the Mario universe, Day is already onboard for a Luigi movie.

“Yes, I do. Big time. You’re not the first [to ask] but let’s get that out in the zeitgiest. Let’s make this happen, okay? I am in,” said Charlie Day in an interview with Comicbook, when asked about his thoughts on a potential Mario movie and will he be willing to join the cast once again. If it happens, the chances are high for it being based on the Luigi’s Mansion series.

His eagerness to return to the role shows how much the character means to the actor. Charlie’s co-star, The Guardians of the Galaxy actor, Chris Pratt, also shared it had been a wild ride playing the sensation that is Mario. He said, “I mean I grew up loving Mario, and being able to do the voice was insane…” said Pratt.

Even in their domestic lives, being Mario and Luigi has left its mark. While Charlie is being worshipped by his young ones for playing the character, Chris had a little misfortune, as his young son Jack is more of a Luigi fan than Mario. Pratt said, “Like he plays Smash Brothers and he’s like, ‘Dad, I own at Smash, I own everybody at Smash. And I’m Luigi. I think Luigi is a better player.’”
