Call of Duty saga has achieved an iconic status throughout the years, due to many reasons. Prestige is one such aspect of this franchise that has gained a special place in the hearts of players. Seen in multiple installments so far, the levelling system becomes available once a player goes past the maximum achievable rank in any given title. That has been the format each year until 2022 when Activision launched Modern Warfare II.
The way Prestige worked in Call of Duty has changed with Modern Warfare II. So much so that now the new levelling system has made lots of players annoyed to say the least. Especially after the recent news on the upcoming new season. And it’s not looking good at all.
Call of Duty fans are frustrated by devs’ approach towards the Prestige Rank system of Modern Warfare II

Until last year, the format of Prestige was more or less the same in all the entries. Previous titles used to reset the level of every player at the end of a given season. Basically, they used to lose their hard-earned progress at the start of each new season. But this system has now changed when it comes to current offering from Activision and Infinity Ward. This was something that wasn’t considered a welcome move by some players in 2022. To begin with, Season 1 had its Prestige level cap limited to 5, after reaching level 250.
Ahead of Season 2 this year, most of the fans were expecting to get a level cap of 500 to reach Prestige 10. And that’s exactly what Call of Duty Modern Warfare II devs confirmed as well, last week. While sharing the blog for everything coming to Season 2, they clearly mentioned that the “Prestige Rank cap will be increased to Prestige 10, with the level cap increased to 500.”

However, just recently they made a “correction” while dropping a tweet. It revealed that Season 2 will have its Prestige Rank cap limited to 450. And that players will be able to unlock Prestige Rank 6,7,8, and 9. What’s strange is that the devs didn’t give a specific reason for this reduction.
Correction: Prestige Rank will be capped at 450 this season with Prestige 6, 7, 8 & 9 available for unlock.

Obviously, this ‘correction’ didn’t end up receiving a good response from the players. It seems like Call of Duty devs are testing their patience in more ways than one. Upon finding that they will have reduced Prestige Ranks to unlock, most of the users expressed their disappointment towards the game. According to them, it’s simply unfair because there will be nothing much to keep them engaged for a longer duration. “Let’s forget about this year community. We deserve so much better”, wrote an angry player.

I don’t understand why everything is so arbitrary with you guys. It was 500 a few days ago now it’s 450. Just make it 1000 like it was why must you insist on doing every single thing totally opposite to what players want🤦♂️🙄

I miss the old prestige system. I don't see the point grinding to 450 for it be reset next season…

Some things rendered meaningless by this level cap for anyone who plays even semi casually:
1) Challenges become worthless.
2) Double xp weekends. They now mean nothing.
3) XP in general. XP doesnt mean a thing if youre guaranteed to hit the cap 2 weeks into a 3-4 month season— Scan (@SportScan77) February 11, 2023

So even fewer levels than the cap that already limited us to 25% of Warzone 1's level cap. How exactly did you guys come to the conclusion that giving players less to play for was the way to go?
