The COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the world and the situation is growing dire with each passing day. In light of this, Sony elected to delay Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II until further notice. Under normal circumstances, the game rolls out on May 29th, thought that won’t be the case this time.

“Logistically, the global crisis is preventing us from providing the launch experience our players deserve,” Sony revealed in its statement. Apparently, the survival video game is not the only game to suffer, with Iron Man VR facing a delay.

“We were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control. So we couldn’t launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction,” Naughty Dog confirmed. “We want to make sure everyone gets to play The Last of Us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we’re doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues.”

What does the The Last of Us 2 delay mean?

The developer hopes that the coronavirus pandemic does not cause a long delay. However, the company promised its fans more information as soon as possible. Admittedly, The Last of Us Part II faced delays before and this is nothing new. Back in October 2019, Sony delayed the February 21st launch to  to May 29th. Unfortunately, the coronavirus forced Sony’s hand.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected a number of video games aside from The Last of Us Part II and Iron Man VR. Apparently, another affected developer is Square Enix. The only difference is that the company is shipping copies of Final Fantasy VII Remake “earlier than usual” to Europe and Australia.

They will follow it up with more shipments to other Western regions in order to get the game to players. Final Fantasy VII Remake’s projected release date is April 10th and Square Enix is scrambling. The virus seemingly halted the entire world in its tracks, with public events cancelled, sports events either postponed or cancelled and game releases adversely affected as well.
