Last year, Embracer Group purchased the rights to the Tomb Raider franchise featuring Lara Croft. For years, Square Enix was the home of the iconic female character. But everything changed when Embracer acquired the IP for $300 million. After the deal, it was believed that the new home would offer fresh, adventurous tales featuring the protagonist. Surprisingly, though, it won’t be the case at all.
A newly leaked information has reportedly revealed that Embracer Group has resold the rights of the Tomb Raider franchise. Even more shocking is that the IP was allegedly sold for double the price of what Embrace paid in 2022. All things considered, Lara Croft has found a new home again in less than a year!

As noticed by the website Insider Gaming, Embracer Group has reportedly sold the rights to this series to Amazon. This news was initially revealed by the website Fellowship of Fans. Going by what’s been shared, Embracer has leased the rights to the popular Tomb Raider IP to Amazon for approximately $600 million.
This is Amazon’s second-biggest deal after acquiring the Television rights for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The report from the aforementioned website didn’t confirm the exact currency involved in the deal.
The latest update is quite interesting to witness. That’s because Amazon had already confirmed last year that it will publish the next Tomb Raider game featuring Lara Croft. Developer Crystal Dynamics will be harnessing the powers of Unreal Engine 5 for this future installment. On the other hand, Amazon hasn’t officially confirmed any details regarding a TV series based on Lara Croft.
