Jim Ryan initially took over the role of CEO of SIE in February 2019, following John Kodera’s departure. Ryan joined in 1994 and has cemented his place in PlayStation’s legacy, having been part of the iconic PS2, PS3, PS4 and the latest and best yet, PS5. And he’s witnessed some of the greatest PlayStation titles, such as The Last of Us, Uncharted and God of War. So undoubtedly, his decision to retire now has sent shockwaves across the gaming industry.
Who will be the next PlayStation CEO?
As of now, there’s no information on who will take up the role of SIE’s president. However, Hiroki Totoki will be the interim CEO for a temporary period after Jim departs in March 2024.
Fans are speculating that Shuhei Yoshida, Shawn Layden, Jack Tretton, and Hermen Hulst will fit the role of the CEO. However, Layden and Tretton have already left Sony so they won’t likely return. Speaking of Yoshida, he’s the Head of the Independent Developer Initiative at SIE at the moment.
