Microsoft has been struggling very hard in its attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard, the publisher of the billion dollars earning Call of Duty franchise. This deal is not something that many of the regulators around the world see with kind eyes. One of them is the FTC, a regulatory board in the USA that recently sued Microsoft on grounds of fair competition.
A recent buzz around this case was that Judge decided to rule in favor of Microsoft and people are undoubtedly happy with this. But this case has also cleared a big misconception people had in regards to Nintendo Switch.

PlayStation and Xbox consoles have always been in competition with each other for years now. These consoles compete on every level, performance, game library, and even controller. Fans compare everything they can to prove their preferred way of playing video games is much superior.
There’s a third console in the market too. Nintendo Switch has been selling like hotcakes ever since its launch in 2017. It is considered underpowered. Many do not even consider it to be a direct competition to the likes of PlayStation 5 and Xbox. This has not stopped it from becoming the third best-selling console of all time though.

It almost looks like when it comes to having fun, gamers prefer exciting gameplay over lifelike visuals. And no doubt Nintendo has mastered the art of creating some really exciting games.
Recently, FTC stated that Nintendo Switch should not be considered a completion to Sony and Microsoft’s current generation machines. They claimed it’s a handheld and handheld console does not compete with mainline consoles.

Judge Corley was not convinced, though. They mentioned in their ruling as per Exputer, “There are functionality differences between the Switch and the PlayStation and Xbox consoles – the Switch is portable, and it has its own screen and less powerful hardware. However, neither the FTC nor its expert considers the extent to which the Switch’s differentiated features, including its price, portability, and battery, are factors the customer balances when deciding which console to purchase.”
