The gaming industry has recently been seeing a lot of developments in the case of JRPGs, and role-playing games in general. But the recent annual reports by major development companies like Square Enix now show that the demand is not new.

This came to light by the fact that games like the Final Fantasy series, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest have actually sold millions of copies over the years. And they are even selling them at full strength even now.

Square Enix ships millions of copies of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts

According to a recent Annual Report by Square Enix, it seems that the game developer is now seeing a surge in the demand for its JRPGs. The report claims that the role-playing games in their arsenal have sold millions of copies in western countries, especially America.

Notably, the popular Kingdom Hearts series has sold over 36 million units and the Dragon Quest game series has moved over 85 million. Whereas the Final Fantasy series has shipped over 173 million units to America and other western countries from Japan.

Additionally, the reports said that the sales for the games were quite impressive over the years and the total collection for these games had shown some tremendous numbers.

What do the numbers say?

According to Yosuke Matsuda, President of Square Enix, the company made record-breaking sales last year where they earning a total of 2 Billion USD. He said, “I am pleased to report that the Group set new records for full-year net sales (¥365.2 billion) and all its profit lines (operating income of ¥59.2 billion, ordinary income of ¥70.7 billion, and profit attributable to owners of parent of ¥51 billion) in the fiscal year ended March 2022.

Thus, it makes it clear that the world is still going crazy for the JRPGs, and it might stay this way for years to come. This is mostly because of the fact that Japan has always been the hub of making brilliant games and consoles and that it has no competition whatsoever in this market.
