The Genshin Impact fans were over the moon after the developers announced a new RPG game for 2023. HoYoverse (formerly miHoYo) has been doing an immaculate job of maintaining the unique mechanisms that Genshin offered its players.
Thus, when Honkai Star Rail was announced, anticipation and excitement were over the roof. But, does it follow the very mechanisms that made Genshin such a masterpiece? Moreover, fans all around the world are concerned whether the game is an open-world adventure, like its spiritual predecessor.
Will Honkai Star Rail follow Genshin Impact’s path?

Let’s first address the elephant in the room. Unfortunately, Honkai Star Rail is not an open-world game like Genshin Impact. Of course, it was expected to not follow the path of Genshin Impact in regards to style, as the Star Rail is just a spiritual successor and not a sequel to Genshin. But, it does not mean the game is restricted. It has a semi-open world system, which offers players the needed space to explore, and not feel congested.
We should all keep in mind that Honkai Star Rail is a turn-based game compared to Genshin, which is fully rooted in its open-world system. HoYoverse is trying to expand its genre with Star Tail. That is, Honkai Impact was an arena battle game, whereas Genshin, as mentioned earlier, is an open-world title.
Though it does not completely mean that Star Rail is distinct in a complete sense from the previous HoYoverse titles. The wishing system is still present in the game. Interestingly, the game that boasted much higher pre-register numbers compared to Genshin Impact received polarized opinions.
Fan reception for the new HoYoverse game is a mixed one
Fans who got to play the game were both excited and expressed the need for more from the title. Open-world style is something that has become an adored trend now, thus the absence of it was quite noticeable for some. On the other hand, some players felt the game was mundane. They were not quite impressed with the turn-based style title.
Lack of an open world is only one difference between Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact https://t.co/H0nXttPjIH

And there is so much going on in the game i can't wrap my head around. The game is semi open world thus you can't jump or run around as you wish. It's just a genshin impact with turn based battles and much more mechanics and stuff.#HonkaiStarRail@x_ashwin_x
