“It Was Very Much Like a Grieving Process”: ‘The Last of Us’ Lead Star Bella Ramsey Reflects on Her Attachment to Her Role and the Show

HBO Max’s hit television series, The Last of Us season 1, is almost at its home stretch. After a few days, the show will finish its initial broadcast. Claiming high praise from critics and love from fans, the show has gained a prestigious place both in television history and in the hearts of the audience. 

However, the overgrowing affection for the series has spread across the audience’s hearts, like the fictional Cordyceps fungus that haunts the characters in the show. Saying farewell won’t be easy for any fan, just like it wasn’t easy for the lead actress Bella Ramsey to say goodbye to her role, Ellie.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey play the lead duo of the show Joel and Ellie, respectively. Both actors had once worked together before in another widely popular show, The Game of Thrones. While both delivered astonishing performances, Bella gained a little more acclaim due to their masterclass acting prowess at such a young age. 

Her portrayal of the young rebel Ellie won the heart of every fan, including even the protective, loyal admirers of the original games. To completely submerge themselves in the shoes of Ellie. Bella went through a lot of discipline to make herself mentally and physically capable of portraying the character. 

In the end, when the shoot inevitably ended, all the preparations and dedication toward the character made it harder for her to say goodbye. In a recent interview with Wmagazine, the 19-year-old actress said, “It was very much like a grieving process,” to leave her character and return to her normal life. “When I [first] got home, I found it difficult to settle back into being just Bella and speaking with a British accent again,” added Bella. 

“The Last of Us is still the only thing I’m thinking about, I have such withdrawal symptoms from set,” continued the talent behind the character of Ellie. According to the reports from HBO, it seems the second season is already confirmed and currently is in development. If everything goes according to plan, Bella may not have to wait too long to return on the screens as Ellie.
