FromSoftware’s upcoming and highly anticipated title, Elden Ring is just around the corner and the hype is already through the roof amongst fans. However, one crucial aspect of the game is somehow getting ignored in the middle of everything else and that’s the lore and story of the characters that it will feature upon the release. The credit for those goes to the legendary writer George R. R. Martin, who collaborated with FromSoftware to create a mesmerizing fantasy world.
The entire process of this unique collaboration is quite a story in itself, as revealed in the latest blog post from the Game of Thrones writer himself. George R. R. Martin recalled how he was approached by Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, and his team of amazing game designers, to ask him to join Elden Ring.

George R. R. Martin calls Elden Ring “incredible”
In the blog, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire wrote that the team of Elden Ring wanted him to build the fictional lore for the upcoming project. Simply put, his role was to craft the backstory of the open-world fantasy title. Although he didn’t have a major interest in video games, he accepted this offer because it was just “too exciting to refuse,” according to Martin.
George R. R. Martin then wrote a “deep, dark”, and “resonant world”, which served as the basic foundation of Elden Ring. And since he loves creating different fictitious worlds, having imaginary history, he went along and collaborated very passionately. After completing his role, FromSoftware’s team proceeded further with the development phase.
What’s interesting to note in this blog is that George ends it by saying that Elden Ring is just “incredible”. Such a positive reaction coming from one of the persons who has actually worked on the project seems like a good sign for the game.
