Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg aka PewDiePie is one of the most well-known content creators of all time. He was the former most subscribed channel on YouTube. In his long career on the platform, PewDiePie has shown huge changes in his personality and has gone through a lot of growth.

The Swedish YouTuber who used to scream in front of the camera playing horror games like Amnesia now practices Greek Stoicism and calls himself an ‘Epic Minimalist’. But there was a time when the young content creator confessed to buying an expensive watch for a special occasion, with a philosophical reason.

Why did PewDiePie buy a $10k Rolex GMT Master II?

PewDiePie, in many instances, had confessed that he doesn’t believe in materialistic pleasures. He claims to be a minimalist. But to celebrate one of the happiest moments of his life, Felix went forward and bought a Rolex GMT Master II and gifted it to himself. He also had philosophical reasoning behind getting the watch.

When Felix proposed to his Girlfriend Marzia, he felt a little left out. According to him, “She got this fancy ring” but there was nothing for him. So, celebrating the occasion, he wanted to buy something for himself. “People always said, if you want to buy a nice watch, buy it for a good reason”, said PewDiePie.

Well I am not gonna get a better reason than my proposal” explained the Swedish YouTuber. That is how the Pewd’s proceeded to buy his Rolex. But recounted that he also had another reason for buying this watch.

According to him, we are all surrounded by expandable accessories such as mobile phones and such. But having “something that will last your lifetime”, changed his perspective on possessions. 

Felix still following his Minimalist ways, as in a recent video, he shared that he still doesn’t buy unnecessary things. He uses only a single pair of shoes, and only buys a new one when it is completely unusable.

It’s about finding the things that you really like and actually treasuring them in a different way, kind of changes my relationship with certain items. And you take better care for them to last longer and other things like that as well…” Pewd’s shares his perspective on materialistic pleasures.
