The Assassin’s Creed franchise has no shortage of memorable characters. From Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad of the first Assassin’s Creed game to Eivor Varinsdottir from Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, each member of The Brotherhood has left their mark on players’ minds. With so many protagonists, there’s a lot of debate within the community as to who the best Assassin is.
With the AC: Mirage release around the corner and a long list of protagonists, fans have become divided in the debate about the most powerful Assassin in the franchise. One candidate for this title is someone who has remained under the shadows, waiting to be acknowledged for his prowess.

Despite being in the company of demigods and even actual gods, Nikolaï Orelov will always be a strong candidate for the title of the best Assassin. While not as popular as Assassin’s Creed: Vahalla or Odyssey, Chronicles: Russia had a great story. The one last ride of a veteran member of The Brotherhood to steal the Precesur Box from the Romanov Family was beautifully told by Ubisoft and Climax Studios.
Bayek from Assassin’s Creed: Origins, on the other hand, was one of the earliest members of The Brotherhood. Although he was introduced to the franchise much later, he was also able to steal fans’ hearts. His powers were so great that he even managed to hold his own against a few actual gods from Egyptian mythology.
On the other hand, Eivor from AC: Valhalla eventually becomes Odin himself as the story progresses. And even without such powers, Eivor is a fearsome warrior who makes a spine-chilling opponent.
Both Bayek and Altair were put in a similar situation, but Bayek remained the same person throughout the game. Despite a major change in his intentions, he held his characteristic integrity. Bayek’s character appealed to the fans more as a protector maybe because of his Medjay past. Compared to Altair’s maturity, Bayek was represented as the true protector of Egypt.

Nikolai Orelov: even Isu Artifacts are his weapon
Considering Bayek’s powers, it’s interesting that Orelov would be the most powerful Assassin. But there are some things about this character that make him an ideal candidate for such a comparison.
Nikolai Orelov was a Russian Assassin, who was a member of the Russian Brotherhood during the Bolshevik Revolution in the early 19th Century. His exploits were titillating for anyone who’s played Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia. He caused train accidents, earth-shattering explosions, and much more.
He also goes to the extent of even tampering with Isu Artifacts (ancient relics crafted by a superior alien race who used to rule the world). This puts Orelov right up there with the likes of Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad.

Orelov had to take on the Romanovs head-on to retrieve the Precersur Box, which contained the genetic memories of Shao Jun. Anastasia Romanov is the only surviving member of the Royal Family who merged with Shao Jun’s memories. Orelov saves her not only from slaughter by the enemies of the Crown but also from The Brotherhood. He helps her escape the country under a fake name, only later for her to become an Assassin herself.
Fans would also do well to remember that Orelov managed to walk home after withstanding the Tunguska explosion, which expelled energy that could level an entire city. His capabilities of withstanding impacts are beyond any doubt.
