It was about time Sony confirmed The Last of Us Part 2 Remaster for PlayStation 5. The TLOU HBO series was delayed but now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, shooting is set to begin in January. And season 2 will probably air in early 2025. But that doesn’t mean fans have to go a whole year without new TLOU content. And while the next set of content is a PS5 remaster, players who owned TLOU2 on the ps4 can upgrade to the remastered version! But how good a deal is the Remaster for the PlayStation 4 owners? 

Ever since The Last of Us Part 1 arrived on PC, fans have been rooting for a PS5 Port for the sequel. Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic world has been one of the most celebrated action-adventure experiences. TLOU 2 was so successful, it even beat Ghost of Tsushima to GOTY 2020. Thus, the hype around a PS5 Port seemed understandable. Just hours after a tease sparked the theories of an imminent announcement, PlayStation confirmed the release schedule of the Remaster.

What is the $10 deal for The Last of Us Part 2 Remaster?

TLOU 2 is currently available on the ps5 thanks to backward compatibility. But the only difference on the ps5 is the framerate. PS5 users surely want a version that makes ful use of the PS5’s power? Sony had also made some significant leaps in the remake of the debut installment of the series when it was brought to the current-gen console. So, just an improved frame rate isn’t satisfactory. Fortunately, even Naughty Dog has the bigger picture in mind. 

The developers confirmed The Last of Us Part 2 Remaster coming to PS5 on January 19, 2024. Following the announcement, Sony made some striking revelations on the redefined project that fueled the excitement built around it. But amidst all that has garnered fan attention, an interesting $10 upgrade deal for the PS4 owners has been the highlight. 

According to the deal, all the PS4 owners will be able to upgrade to the digital version of TLOU 2 Remaster for $10 at launch. Moreover, players will be able to import their saves from the source game. But is what will the remaster offer that will make the extra $10 worth it?

What new will the remaster offer? 

Developers Naughty Dog shared brief information on what new changes the remaster would offer to the community. Besides a strong improvement in graphics and visual detailing, fans will get to experience some new additions to the gameplay.

One of the most significant changes is the addition of no return, a rogue-like survival mode. This will give players randomized encounters for a more realistic feel, which will surely up the intensity as well.

The playable guitar is back as well, this time in a “free play mode.”

Another major introduction will allow players to take a peek behind the scenes to understand how the game was made. This will also include levels that never made it to the final cut. This further includes directors’ commentary from (names) to walk players through their creative process.

The remaster will also provide a thorough behind-the-scenes look at how our studio created this game. Players have a rare opportunity to see certain playable scenes that were previously removed from the game thanks to a new set of Lost Levels in Part II Remastered. These early-development slices, rather than completely developed levels, provide you more insights into Part II’s universe along with incorporated developer commentary for a more comprehensive understanding. It also includes a commentary from the game director, Neil Druckmann, narrative lead, Haley Gross, and Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey who play Joel, Elloe and Abby respectively.

Talking about the graphical enhancements, TLOU 2 Remaster will feature an Unlocked frame-rate option for TVs that support VRR, enhanced texture resolution, greater Level-of-Detail distances, better shadow quality, animation sampling rate, and more. There’s also native 4K output(1) in Fidelity Mode, 1440p upscaled to 4K(1) in Performance Mode.
