There is banter going on between fans of Nintendo because of a particular voice actor not getting proper fees from the developers of a game to lend her voice to a particular character. Yes, it’s Bayonetta, and it is yet again in controversy. But is this controversy even worth it?

In recent pop culture, the influence of voice acting has increased immensely. Thus it is surprising that brilliant voice actors, although get some recognition aren’t paid enough for their blood and sweat. But is asking a fan base to avoid a game completely worth it?

Bayonetta 3 faces issues from the original voice actor

Recently, the news of Hellena Taylor, the original Bayonetta voice actor, saying that she wants her fans to boycott Bayonetta 3 and make donations of that money instead made headlines. She explained the situation by saying that she didn’t reprise the role of Bayonetta as she was only offered $4000 for the entire game.

This then sparked a rage amongst fans as they think that it is PlatinumGames, who is just not recognizing talents, and thus are not playing the hero here. But then the question arises, is the entire company to blame? Or just a number of people who hold the authority?

According to fans who think that boycotting a game can be the solution to any unjust to have occurred, the matter of fact is it resolves nothing. The industry of voice acting is still a growing industry. Many think that the industry is still in its early phases, therefore it is not known for what amount of money the actual cost of the work done can be paid.

How to overcome the drawbacks?

The only solution for these types of occurrences to not happen in the future is actually to universalize the overall paycheck for voice actors. A committee should be made to hear the grievances of the voice actors and to make a standard for every voice actor to be cast in such big projects.

This might not help the novice voice actors to get a proper job role, but it will surely ensure that if someone does, it might help them get paid accordingly.

Talking about the boycott part though, it is an individual’s opinion on whether they want to play a certain game or not. But asking a fan who has been waiting for a game to come out for a while to pass up on it because of the industry’s fault isn’t the right way, and it will never be.
