Asus recently posted a teaser for their upcoming handheld console. As the teaser claims, this console will ‘bring PC performance to the life on the go’. The Asus ROG Ally is expected to go head-to-head with the Steam Deck. It is expected to be launched sometime later this year, and the pricing will be competitive, says ASUS.
Revealed on April 1, many thought this to be an April fool’s joke from Asus. However, the Taiwanese giant has come out on their Twitter account revealing the handheld device.

While the official specifications of the device are still not available, Linus and Dave2D have tested out the prototype on their YouTube channels. Boasting a 7-inch FHD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a custom AMD APU powers this device.
While the stock screen only has FHD resolution, you can pump out 4K resolutions by connecting this device with ASUS XG Mobile external GPU. And yes, Asus has given a port for connecting this device with an external GPU, along with a 3.5 mm audio jack, microSD slot, and a fingerprint sensor.
Expected to be launched with a 1TB SSD and USB type-C port for 65W fast charging, this device surely does justice to Asus’s claim for gaming on the go.
Problems with Steam Deck
Asus ROG Ally’s main competitor, Steam Deck, is having issues of its own. This piece of hardware now feels outdated if compared to ROG Ally. With a weight of 669 grams and 2-inch thickness, this device sure feels chunky for a handheld device. Its screen is a 720p and 60Hz screen, almost half of what ROG Ally is offering.

Many gaming fans have called the Steam Deck “unfinished product”. Mostly due to its buggy software and Linux being pre-installed. If players wanted to play their favorite titles, they have to reboot the device and install Windows. Still then, only titles available on Steam are easily playable on the Steam Deck.
