Starfield is a popular RPG, but it’s not a simple game that anyone can just get into in an instant. It needs a lot of getting used to, and it has a bunch of mechanics that fans need to get used to before they can actually start enjoying themselves.
RPGs are often like this; every detailed RPG has its own ways; some would love them and others would hate their complexity. And a small group would realize it was not exactly what they were looking for. After months of hype and a mind-blowing launch, Starfield has started getting some similar criticism too, but how true is it?
Is Starfield too boring to play?

Bethesda has a history of developing games with deep RPG mechanics. Now they are not CRPG-deep, but they are complex in many ways. Players who have never played an RPG can find it somewhat overwhelming. Their skill trees, the speech mechanics, the combat—everything stands out in a Bethesda RPG.
Starfield is no different; in fact, it has even more stuff for players to learn before getting to the actual fun bit. Navigating the map, dogfighting, a brand-new lockpicking game that is a complex puzzle in itself, and a new oxygen system that can literally kill a player if they are not keeping an eye on that meter It is bound to feel like a drag at the start.
There’s one more thing about this game that many fans are not loving. Every Bethesda game before Starfield had a wow moment at the start. In Skyrim, it’s the first dragon who shows up when the player character is about to be killed; in Fallout 4, it’s the nuclear bomb. Starfield is missing that thing; maybe they thought the first flight in space would be that, but no, it did not feel that way at all.

So, if someone says that Starfield is not a fun game, then one can assume one of two things: they either do not care for the new mechanics it introduces. Or they can even be one of those players who literally expected it to be “Skyrim in Space,” which it is not.
Maybe Elder Scrolls VI would do the trick?
Maybe fans who are not able to connect with Starfield will find Bethesda’s next game, Elder Scrolls VI, to their liking. The game is still years away, but one thing is for sure: that game would be closer to Skyrim in everything than Starfield can ever be.

And this is not us saying Starfield is a bad game; it’s just that Starfield is not what many gamers were expecting it to be. And for those players, it not being fun makes complete sense.
