The ongoing Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is mostly impressing the players. While they are not having major gameplay-based issues, many of them are still wondering if the upcoming title is bringing with it the most annoying aspect of its predecessor or not – skill-based matchmaking or SBMM.
The infamous feature was initially introduced in 2019’s Modern Warfare. Since then, it has mostly left the community in splits. While many players don’t have a problem with SBMM, there are users who simply hate it. So much so much they don’t want this trend to continue in the series. But is it going to be the case?

Although Activision hasn’t actually confirmed it, the ‘mysterious devil’ has been present in disguised form over the last four years. After Infinity Ward’s rebooted installment, titles like Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, and event last year’s MWII have featured SBMM. So it was unlikely to expect it to get eliminated in this year’s game.
Sadly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is believed to have skill-based matchmaking, according to players’ experience from the Beta. Ever since the limited build of the game went live, most of the users have speculated regarding the presence of SBMM. In simple words, it has likely made a return fourth year in a row.
It will be interesting to see how the SBMM expands more in the coming future. As of now, it’s seriously not something that fans are admiring due to its inconsistent function.
What to expect from Modern Warfare 3 content upon release?
Sledgehammer’s game will launch with a lot of surprises, to say the least. Firstly, there will be an improved Multiplayer experience consisting of iconic maps. A total of 16 remastered maps are coming back from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. To name a few, players will be able to dive deeper into the nostalgia with areas like Favela, Rust, Highrise, Derail, Afghan, Skidrow, Scrapyard, and Quarry among others.

Then, there’s also the open-world Zombies mode. Based on a PvE format, it will require the players to complete certain quests, loot items, and extract successfully. The mode will be set in a large map of Urzikstan.
Oh, and the Campaign is also returning, as usual in Modern Warfare 3. It will continue the story forward from last year’s MWII. This time, members of Task Force 141 will face their ultimate threat, Vladimir Makarov. The iconic series villain was last seen in 2011’s original MW3.

Coming back to the issue of SBMM, there’s nothing players can do about it right now. Among other things, Modern Warfare 3 will also ‘carry forward’ this feature, no matter what.
