A new tease from a toymaker had raised the eyebrows of gaming fans with PS5 exclusive Spider-Man 2’s potential connection to the multiverse.

It seems like multiverse has become the new trend globally. Not just movies and shows, but even popular games are adapting to this fascinating genre. However, much to everyone’s surprise, Insomniac’s anticipated PlayStation 5 title Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was rumored to have similar elements.

Moreover, the news spread like wildfire on the internet within hours. Nonetheless, the big question each Spider-Man fan might be having right now is: will the PS5 exclusive feature a story based on a multiverse?

Are Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse connected through a multiverse string?

Well, the clear and simple answer to this question is no. There’s no such thing happening with the upcoming video game. However, what did happen recently was a blunder, committed by Hasbro – the company behind making toys for the awaited PlayStation 5 exclusive. Hasbro had unveiled a toy based on Miles Morales. He’s one of the two central characters of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, alongside Peter Parker.

While the toy was inspired by Miles’ look from the game itself, what raised everyone’s eyebrows was certain information given by Hasbro. The box for the toy revealed a story description of Spider-Man 2 that mentioned a multiverse. With Peter Parker as his mentor, Miles Morales discovers allies and enemies across the multiverse – and at home in New York – as the newest Spider-Man,” read the initial press release, as reported by Comicbook.

The news ended up spreading rumors about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s potential connection with Across the Spider-Verse. The latter is Sony’s upcoming movie and a sequel to its hit predecessor from 2018. Interestingly, the film also focuses on Miles Morales’ character who gets to meet various Spider-people from different dimensions.

However, there’s no such thing as a multiverse in the PS5 game. Hasbro has clarified, with an updated description for the toy based on Miles Morales, that there was a mistake from their end since the “original product info inadvertently referenced the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse film and was not meant to include any reference to the film or multiverse”.
