Nintendo Switch launched back in March 2017. When this console launched, many were dumbfounded to see how it allowed them to take their favorite console games on the go. And that’s how Nintendo sold it. It was a home console on the go.

For many, it became the second console, and the availability of various ports of bigger games cemented that position. But those who saw it as a primary device saw a huge flaw in it.

They called it underpowered, and now, in March 2023, it would be six years old. In the age where consoles have the capability to present 4k visuals with ray tracing, Switch is not underpowered, but extremely underpowered. And so the fans wonder, what is Nintendo doing?

Many claimed that maybe Nintendo Switch is now too old for a completely open-world flagship title such as this. Then again, there’s Tears of the Kingdom. This game would be coming to Nintendo Switch soon and it is already looking insane!

It appears as if Nintendo Switch in its current state has become a console that is powerful enough if developers are willing to put in some effort. And let us be honest, if Sony’s console offers a chip capable of ray tracing and Nintendo gives developers a shared memory pool for graphics as well as cache storage, developers are bound to skip Switch.

That’s why it makes sense for Nintendo to look ahead now, and maybe they are. There’s been news that Nintendo has already started planning its next console’s launch. They are also shifting some games originally proposed for Switch to this new console.
