One of the major factors behind this was the massively successful Squid Game in real-life video, which dominated people’s YouTube feeds for a while. However, could his recreation of the Netflix blockbuster have overtaken the source material?

MrBeast vs Netflix, who comes out on top?

On 25 November 2021, MrBeast stunned his audience with “$456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!”. For the uninitiated, the title explains it all. It was a recreation of Hwang Dong-hyuk’s super-hit Netflix show that dwarfed other shows in terms of watch time. Jimmy recreated some of the most iconic moments from the show at an eye-watering cost of $3.5 million.

Looking at the massive viewership the video has garnered, it’s safe to say the gamble paid off. Fans praised the video for its accuracy and dedication to the source material, with even Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk praising the effort.

“I watched some of it. I loved it! It helped me to promote the show, too” he said. “So please, I want more people to do it”

Jimmy’s viral venture has accrued a whopping 231,743,663 views online.

Netflix, on the other hand, saw its subscriber growth slow down in Q4 2021. Accordingly, the service currently boasts 222 million worldwide subscribers.

While that’s not a negligible membership size, it means the American streaming service eats the dust in terms of sheer numbers. Significantly, MrBeast’s lucrative venture has netted him over 9 million more viewers than Netflix’s entire subscriber base.

In his recent appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast, the millionaire says it himself “I think Netflix in total has 220 million subscribers, and that video just crossed 220 million views.”

This is definitely a massive win for Jimmy and brings him a step closer to becoming the biggest YouTuber. If Season 2 of Squid Game drops, fans would love to see what he comes up with next.
