Dying Light 2 is on the cusp of making its eagerly anticipated launch worldwide. Fans who were curious to explore the open world in the anticipated sequel will soon have it on their systems. But all that glitters isn’t always gold. At least, that’s the case right now with Dying Light 2, as the early feedback from critics may hamper its fate.

Techland was working constantly on the next entry following the success of 2015’s original installment. Following multiple delays, initially, Dying Light 2 will finally see the light of the day now. However, it remains to be seen if it will be for better or worse.

Will Dying Light 2 be an underwhelming sequel?

The review embargo for the game was lifted just few days back and since then, the Techland title has mostly received a mixed bag of opinions from critics.

So far, multiple portals have already given their verdict on Dying Light 2. And going by the majority of them, it seems to be an average looking sequel that slightly misses the mark. Game reviews from IGN, Shacknews, Push Square, and GameSpot echo this sentiment from their recent experiences.

When it comes to Metacritic, Dying Light 2 started on a very high note when critical reviews first emerged on the site. Gradually, however, they have begun to decline. At the time of writing, the PS5 version of the game has a meta score of 79, based on 46 reviews. On the other hand, the PC and Xbox Series X editions have a rating of 79 each, based on 25 and 26 receptions respectively.

If that wasn’t alarming enough, Techland itself made a worrying request to all the players, just recently, right before the game’s launch. The development team asked all the users who got an early access to the retail copies to refrain from starting Dying Light 2. It gave a reason for that as well, that you can see in the tweet below.

This raises some burning questions which link back to the reviews. Is the game still not ready to play? Was Techland crunching on its development while having more issues to fix?

Well, fans across the globe will hope to not get such a result when Dying Light 2 releases on February 4, 2022. It will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch version will also arrive soon; currently it’s in development.
